The Best Holiday
The greatest gift is to be born alone
a human being, not a drone.
Misfortune indoctrinates to a world of the group
scratching around on the floor of a coop.
Those that dance with the power from
the madness of the mind hath numb
a life free from the difference of each,
dependent groups they now must preach.
A plague from the hand of the state
already dead, our funerals wait
Sustained by a repeating virus,
day in, day out, never-ending crisis.
Power obscured by the light of hope,
an individual speaks out, then must cope
with insidious attacks from those without reason.
Ignorance approaches, ‘tis the season.

I need to record what I was thinking when I wrote this.......spoiler warning
We are born as individuals, then we are socialized to think in terms of a group, losing individuality (the implication is the loss of independent thought)
Chicken coop image seems to fit.

Those that are in power because they appeal to the madness of the group work to numb the sense of a person's individuality. The powerful constantly refer to people as groups (white/blacks,hispanics,asians,rich,poor,middle class) but never as individuals.

Governments are very adept at creating groups that become dependent on the gov, thereby holding their vote hostage. The group gets preferential treatment from the government, and the group rewards preferential treatment with votes.
The next stanza identifies the government as one of the objects of my rant. Also, politicians want people to believe that there is a problem so they can suggest a plan to fix the problem. No matter what, politicians will always declare problems (hence, never ending crisis). Fear is a wonderful tactic for political manipulation.
"Power obscurred by the light of hope"
People do not see the loss of individual freedom because it is obscurred by the hope of better times. If you are convinced that your country is in the shitter, and the government offers you hope, it is easy to miss the fact that the governemnt is massing more power
Finally, individuals get lampooned for speaking out (reinforcing the madness of the group).
